Daria Kasatkina began her French Open campaign with a comfortable and impressive 6-4, 6-4 victory against Zeynep Sonmez. The Aussie reached the third round in Strasbourg last week, having earned straight sets victories against Peyton Stearns and Liudmila Samsonova before a three-set defeat to Jaqueline Cristian.

Dusan Bandecchi, the world number 215, performed well in qualification to make it past Chloe Paquet, Dominika Salkova and Viktoria Hruncakova before a surprise three-set defeat of number 31 seed Cristina Bucsa. Bandecchi had never played it past the second qualifying round of a Grand Slam.

Bandecchi is enjoying a career run at Roland Garros at the moment but Kasatkina remains the favourite to edge into what would be a rare Grand Slam third round for the Australian.
