Daniil Medvedev vs Tallon Griekspoor prediction

Daniil Medvedev moved tantalisingly close to landing a second Dubai title after outclassing Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The Russian moved 8-2 up in his head-to-head with the Canadian top seed thanks to a convincing 6-4 6-2 win.

The third seed will now bid for his second title of the year, to go along with the one won in Brisbane back in January, when he tackles Tallon Griekspoor for the second time.

The Dutchman beat former champion Andrey Rublev 7-5 7-6 in a tight affair to reach the sixth final of his career despite taking a medical time-out in the second set.

Griekspoor actually won their first meeting at this very tournament last year, coming up trumps on serve to triumph 2-6 7-6 7-5 in the quarter finals.

Medvedev is a different beast this year and has been flawless so far this week. Indeed, much will depend upon how Grieki recovers after struggling in that second set with Rublev.

The world number 25 has really hit a purple patch at this event, enjoying the pace the conditions add to his hefty forehand a big serve.

This could go either way if both players are full fit, although we do tend to lean towards Medvedev’s big-match experience in this showdown.

There’s also scope for there to be a breaker in there too and a potential third set just like 12 months ago.
