Daniil Medvedev got back to winning ways as he defeated Juncheng Shang in round one of the Qatar Open. The Russian, who won this tournament in 2023, was not broken on serve and conceded just one break point as he won 6-4 6-2 after one hour and 15 minutes. Medvedev lost in the first-round of the Rotterdam Open last week.
He goes up against former rival Stefanos Tsitsipas in the next round. Tsitsipas beat Moez Echargui in straight sets to make it through to the round-of-16. The Greek did not even concede a break point as he wrapped up a comfortable 6-4 6-4 victory.
