Daniil Medvedev vs Learner Tien prediction

Daniil Medvedev will be motivated by the prospect of sweet revenge when he takes on Learner Tien in the round of 16 at the Australian Open.

The three-time finalist suffered an embarrassing five-set defeat to the young American at this tournament 12 months ago and has publicly spoken of the issues he has faced in the match-up with the 20-year-old.

Tien won two of the three encounters with Medvedev last year with all of the meetings proving to be dramatic affairs that went the distance.

Medvedev looks to have found a new lease of life following a troubled spell in 2025 but had to dig deep to come back from two sets down and see off Fabian Marozsan 6-7 4-6 7-5 6-0 6-3 on Friday.

Tien is currently at a career high and knocking on the door of the top 25 but he also had to survive a five-set scare against Marcos Giron early on at Melbourne Park. The leftie has since settled into his groove and was rock solid in a straight sets victory over Nuno Borges in the third round.

Medvedev is on an eight-match winning streak following his title triumph in Brisbane and perhaps has the edge in terms of form, but both love the conditions and Tien clearly enjoys the match-up.

The Russian will be desperate to set the record straight here and the fact he ended his hoodoo in their last meeting in Shanghai back October should give him the belief to banish the nightmare of last year - but it's highly likely it will be a long-haul battle once again.

Daniil Medvedev vs Learner Tien tip: Over 3.5 sets
