Daniil Medvedev advanced to his first final in Brisbane for seven years after getting past Alex Michelsen in straight sets. He was broken in his first service game and went 2-0 down, but the Russian recovered with two breaks of his own in quick succession to take the first set. He saved four break points in the second to win 6-4 6-2 and he’s now into his 41st tour-level final.
He will face Brandon Nakashima, who is into his first ATP final since 2022. He kept up his strong start to the season as he beat Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets. The American has not dropped a set across the four matches he has played in this tournament. He edged a tight first set and went on to win 7-6 (4) 6-4.
Medvedev leads the head-to-head 2-0. He came from a set down to beat Nakashima in Madrid last year. The Russian is likely to be tested here but he should have enough quality to get the job done.
