Daniil Medvedev vs Benjamin Bonzi prediction

Daniil Medvedev’s difficult season took another turn for the worse in Cincinnati as he lost in the second-round to Adam Walton. This followed a similarly poor defeat to Alexei Popyrin in Toronto despite taking the first set. The Russian is without a title in over two years, and his ranking has dropped to 13 in the world.

Benjamin Bonzi performed brilliantly in Cincinnati last time out as he reached the round-of-16. He defeated former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas and picked up a win over a top 10 player after also getting past Lorenzo Musetti. Bonzi had lost his last three matches prior to the tournament but will relish the opportunity to face Medvedev once again.

These two faced each other just last month in the first-round of Wimbledon, with the Frenchman pulling off one of the shocks of the round by defeating the five-time slam finalist in four sets. He also leads the head-to-head 2-1 but this will be their first meeting on an outdoor hard court.

Medvedev is likely to find things easier on this surface but his recent form indicates that he is suffering from a crisis in confidence at just the wrong time. Medvedev may have enough to win but we can see this being another struggle for the Russian, especially after Bonzi’s fine display in Cincinnati.
