Daniil Medvedev dropped his first set at the Brisbane International this week but still recovered to defeat Kamil Majchrzak in his quarter-final match. The Russian did make a slow start but was more aggressive in the next two sets, winning 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-2. Medvedev, who made the final here in 2019, is two wins away from a 22nd tour-level title.
He goes up against Alex Michelsen in the semi-finals. He defeated compatriot Sebastian Korda to advance. Michelsen produced a strong serving performance, as he only conceded the one break point, while he benefited from a poor Korda display, with 37 unforced errors from the 25-year-old.
Medvedev was not at his best early on but his level in the next two sets will have given him a lot of confidence. Michelsen will need to serve well to have a chance, and the former world number one is a comfortable favourite.
