Former finalist Daniil Medvedev will be delighted to have put his clay frustrations firmly behind him when he kicks off his grass campaign against Adrian Mannarino.

The Russian makes no secret of his disdain for the dirt and has progressively developed into a sharp operator on the turf.

The top seed won the Mallorca title on the surface in 2021 and has reached the last four at Wimbledon for the past two years, only bowing out to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz on both occasions. 

It makes him a clear contender for this title, but he has a tricky opener against lucky loser Mannarino. 

The Frenchman demolished Christopher O’Connell 6-1 6-3 to demonstrate his calibre on grass.
