Daniel Merida vs Marin Cilic prediction
Daniel Merida reached the quarter-finals of the Montreal Open, succumbing to a defeat to Learner Tien. Merida also won the Croatia Open in mid-July and it has been a positive couple of months or so for the Spaniard.
Marin Cilic has benefitted from a resurgence in his form in the last 18 months or so. The 37-year-old Croat hasn’t had as strong a couple of months as Merida, though, with a second round defeat in Montreal in his most recent outing, against Frances Tiafoe.
Cilic’s resilience and experience should ensure he is an awkward opponent in this first round tie but Merida remains the favourite in Cincinnati.
