Daniel Merida vs Daniil Medvedev prediction

Daniel Merida advanced to the second-round after his opponent Camilo Ugo Carabelli retired in the fourth set of their opening match. Ugo Carabelli dominated the first two sets, establishing a 6-4 5-0 lead. However, he suffered a fall towards the end of the second, and despite winning that set, he struggled physically as the match wore on. He ended up retiring at 3-0 down in the fourth, after Merida had won the third set 6-2.

He takes on former world number one Daniil Medvedev. The Russian was in fine form in his first-round match, as he swept past Marin Cilic. This was seen as a difficult match for Medvedev, with Cilic a former Wimbledon finalist who also reached the round-of-16 last year. However, the 2021 US Open champion dominated from start to finish, easing to a 6-1 6-2 6-4 victory. 

Merida is unlikely to cause an upset in round two; this is likely to be a thoroughly straight-forward victory for Medvedev.
