Daniel Altmaier competes in his first event since equalling his best Grand Slam finish at Roland Garros. He made the fourth-round of the French Open for the second time after a run which saw him pull off a major shock by defeating Taylor Fritz. The German has struggled on grass during his career so far, but he should be full of confidence after such a fine end to his clay court season.
He takes on Daniil Medvedev in round one. The former US Open champion began his grass court season early in Rosmalen after being dumped out of Roland Garros in the first-round. Unfortunately for Medvedev, he could only reach the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 event as he lost to Reilly Opelka in straight sets. Medvedev could not break the big American’s serve throughout the whole match.
Though Altmaier will be riding high after his Roland Garros performance, he has shown nothing on grass to suggest he will be a threat to Medvedev, who has made back-to-back Wimbledon semi-finals. It should be a routine win for the Russian.
