Damir Dzumhur vs Felix Auger-Aliassime prediction
Damir Dzumhur was not at his best but managed to battle his way past 18-year-old Federico Cina in the first-round of the European Open. The Bosnian squandered two break point opportunities in the first set and was made to pay as Cina took it on a tiebreak. He recovered well as he won the first four games of the second to level the match up at one set all. He went a break up again but Cina restored parity with a break of his own. It went to another tiebreak, which Dzumhur won, to claim a 6-7 6-2 7-6 win after two hours and 43 minutes.
He will now take on Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian made his return to the tour after a month away in Shanghai. He impressed in the early rounds and looked set for his best finish at a Masters tournament but came unstuck against Arthur Rinderknech in the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, his level has been impressive over the past two months, having reached the last eight in Cincinnati and the semi-finals of the US Open. He now returns to a tournament that he won in 2022.
Auger-Aliassime already has an indoor hard court title this season in Montpellier and won the only previous ATP meeting with Dzumhur aged just 19, which was also on this surface. He’s an overwhelming favourite here.
