Dalibor Svrcina came from a set and a break down to beat Adam Walton in the first-round of the Los Cabos Open. Walton, who reached the semi-finals of the event last year, led after winning the first set on a tiebreak and opened up a 2-0 lead in the second. However, Svrcina fought back to win 6-7 (2) 7-6 (2) 6-3.
He now faces second seed Luciano Darderi, who received a bye in the opening round. The Italian advanced to a second successive final at the Swedish Open, but he failed to defend his title after a straight sets loss to Andrey Rublev. Darderi then competed in Estoril and was on the brink of another final as he served for the match in the last four against Alexander Blockx. However, he would go on to lose in a deciding set tiebreak.
The Italian leads the overall head-to-head 3-1, but this is their first match away from clay. Darderi is not quite as effective on a hard court, and the quicker conditions could narrow the gap between the two players.
