Dalibor Svrcina continued his decent form on the ATP Tour as the qualifier advanced through to the next round in Shanghai due to Yibing Wu’s retirement. He enjoyed his best result this season a fortnight ago as he made the quarter-finals in Hangzhou, defeating 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in one of the previous rounds.
It was a return to form for Daniil Medvedev in Beijing as he got through to the semi-finals of the China Open. He did not drop a set on the way, beating Cameron Norrie and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before one of his best displays in quite some time to defeat world number three and longtime rival Alexander Zverev. He went a set up against Learner Tien in the semis and served for the match, but was broken and ended up retiring in the decider due to cramp. Nevertheless, there were plenty of positives for the 2019 champion to take heading into the final leg of the Asian swing.
Medvedev will hope to continue the momentum with a straight-forward win against Svrcina, and will be expected to do so.
