Cristina Bucsa has reached the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open without dropping a set, following her 6-4 6-4 victory over Panna Udvardy. The sixth seed made the early breaks count in the opener before striking at 4-4 in the second and eventually converting her third match point. That followed a 6-4 6-3 win over Bianca Andreescu in round one. Bucsa is now building on an impressive US Open run, where she reached the third-round before losing to Coco Gauff.
Sara Bejlek also progressed to the last eight after a win over Alycia Parks in her opening match. Bejlek conceded just the one break point as she won 6-4 6-3. The third seed has enjoyed an excellent North American hard court swing, highlighted by her superb run to the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open, which included a stunning victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
Bucsa leads the head-to-head 1-0 after their meeting at the US Open just over two weeks ago, with the Spaniard winning in three sets. Bejlek will be out for revenge, but Bucsa is enjoying her best run of form since her run to the title at the Merida Open.
