Cristina Bucsa vs Magdalena Frech prediction

Cristina Bucsa upset the odds to defeat WTA number seven Jasmine Paolini in the semi-final, requiring just two sets to see off the two-time Grand Slam finalist.

The 28-year-old hasn't dropped a set in her four matches to date in Merida, and this marks her second appearance in a tour-level singles final following her defeat to Victoria Mboko at the Hong Kong Open last November.

Magdalena Frech overcame stubborn resistance from veteran Shuai Zhang at the semi-final stage, eventually emerging as a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 winner against the 37-year-old.

Frech clearly enjoys playing in Mexico as her last tour-level title also came in the country, when she lifted the Guadalajara Open trophy in September 2024.

However, Bucsa has been playing the best tennis of the tournament overall, and if she can maintain those performance levels, then we can see her claim a maiden WTA singles title.
