THE LOWDOWN

INDIA WOMEN

  • Off the back of an exciting inaugural WPL action, the India team now turn their attention to the pitch and backing up their winning start in the T20 World Cup against Pakistan.
  • One player who we can’t go without mentioning is Smriti Mandhana, who has just been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.4 crore, the most of any player in the WPL auction.

WEST INDIES WOMEN

  • West Indies were unsurprisingly brushed aside by England last time out and things don’t get any easier for them in this one against another strong side in India.
  • It was clear that the lack of support for Hayley Matthews would be an issue across this tournament for the Windies and so it proved against England, the Windies skipper top-scoring with 42 as her team could only managed 135/7 batting first, nowhere near enough runs.

THE PREDICTION

It’s a case of same old story for West Indies heading into this contest. Until their batters step up and provide more support for their captain Matthews, then they will struggle to win cricket matches. As was the case against England, India feels like too difficult a challenge for them to overcome when factoring in their quality and depth with both bat and ball. Add that to the confidence boost gained by many of their players following the WPL auction and you’d expect them to come out of the traps flying here, ultimately securing a routine win.
