THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTHERN BRAVE WOMEN

  • Two wins from two have seen Southern Brave establish themselves as one of the top women’s teams early on in the competition, with their latest triumph coming by eight wickets over Welsh Fire.
  • Indian overseas opener Smriti Mandhana has made a name for herself as someone who enjoys chasing a target and her 61 not out helped guide Southern Brave over the line as she finished things off with a six.
  • After featuring in their first match vs Trent Rockets, Tara Norris was left out of the side in place of spin-bowler Charlotte Taylor who took just one wicket and captain Anya Shrubsole and the Southern Brave coaches will need to make a call on who gets the nod in this game.

BIRMINGHAM PHOENIX WOMEN

  • Birmingham Phoenix bounced back from defeat vs London Spirit with a 20-run victory away to Manchester Originals that saw them restrict the hosts to 93/8 on a good pitch for bowling.
  • Kirstie Gordon shone with the ball especially, taking three wickets with great support from Abtaha Maqsood and Issy Wong, the former picking up two scalps for the loss of 14 runs from her 20 balls bowled.
  • Question marks still remain regarding the top-order of the Phoenix with captain Amy Jones top scoring for the second game in a row with 31 and the wicketkeeper will be looking for more support from the specialist batters here.

THE PREDICTION

After two victories on the road, Southern Brave will no doubt be looking forward to playing in Southampton for the first time as they take on Birmingham Phoenix. So far, the Brave have shown all the capabilities needed to go all the way in this competition with a formidable top order batting line-up, complimented by a bowling unit working very well as a unit with a clutch of slower options combined with captain Shrubsole’s pace. Birmingham Phoenix’s batting meanwhile has proven very shaky and too reliant on their star names to score the runs needed for them to be competitive. If Southern Brave can restrict both England’s Amy Jones and India’s Shafali Verma to low scores with the bat, then the hosts should go to secure a third straight victory.
