LONDON SPIRIT MEN
- After losing their opening match of the tournament away to Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit saw their first home fixture washed out vs Oval Invincibles and with just a point on the board, need to secure their maiden Hundred victory sooner rather than later.
- Captain Eoin Morgan and head coach Shane Warne will have to make a number of changes to their team here, with top order batters Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence both having been called up for England test duty, meaning they miss the remainder of the competition.
- Joe Cracknell of Middlesex has been added to the squad to reinforce the batting, whilst Luis Reece may be brought into the team after missing out on selection in the opening two games.
TRENT ROCKETS MEN
- Trent Rockets made it two wins from two, after a thrilling run chase saw them edge home by two wickets vs Northern Superchargers last time out.
- Alex Hales was the hero for the Rockets, the opener digging in whilst wickets fell all around him, before finding the ideal partner with the bat in spin-bowling Neil Carter who had already picked up two wickets in an excellent spell with the ball, whilst fast bowler Marchant de Lange will be hoping to build on his outstanding start to the Hundred so far, having taken eight wickets across his two games played so far.
- Sussex T20 Blast captain Luke Wright is likely to come into the side as England test captain Joe Root’s replacement, with all-rounder Steven Mullaney currently isolating after coming into close contact with head coach Andy Flower and two other support staff members for Trent Rockets, who have all tested positive for Covid-19.
THE PREDICTION
Trent Rockets have set the standard so far in the men’s edition of the Hundred, building on the strong foundations set by the core of the squad who also play for reigning T20 Blast champions Notts Outlaws and London Spirit are set for a very tough assignment here. Whilst the Rockets are weakened by the loss of Root, London Spirit being without two of their regular top three batters is a blow that may see them struggle to cope with against a formidable and in-form bowling unit, including spinners Carter and Rashid Khan, alongside the pace of De Lange. When taking this into account alongside the strength-in-depth of the visitors, it would be no surprise to see Trent Rockets make it three wins from three at Lord’s.
