THE TEAM NEWS
BIRMINGHAM PHOENIX WOMEN
- After conceding 145 runs against Trent Rockets, Birmingham Phoenix failed to get on top of the chase and ultimately fell short by 11 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
- The Phoenix have now lost three of their four games in the competition, although they remain just two points away from the top three and still well in with a chance of finishing in the top three.
- Whilst she is known for her fast bowling, Issy Wong impressed with the bat last time out after striking 27 from just 11 deliveries and she could be pushed up the order here and deployed as a pinch hitter.
OVAL INVINCIBLES WOMEN
- Despite restricting Welsh Fire to just 112/6 after winning the toss and bowling first, Oval Invincibles hugely disappointed in their run chase, losing by 12 runs with just nine 4s and a single 6 in their innings.
- With overseas player Marizanne Kapp unavailable, the Invincibles have proven far too dependent on her fellow South African Dane van Niekerk for middle order runs.
- The likelihood is that Kapp will not feature again here and all-rounder Rhianna Southby could be in line to play after not being involved in the last match.
THE PREDICTION
Things have gone awfully wrong for Oval Invincibles since winning their opening two games of the tournament, having lost their next two heading into this clash with the Phoenix. Birmingham themselves are in poor form, with their top order batting despite proving strong on paper having not delivered the runs they are capable of to help propel their side to victory. However, having the likes of England’s Amy Jones within their ranks will always give them a chance and when taking into account how poor Oval Invincibles looked on Monday, it’s difficult to see Birmingham Phoenix not winning the one at home. However, be sure to wait for team news before making any moves as the Invincibles will be a far tougher proposition should overseas star Kapp be available to play.
