THE PREDICTION

West Indies star Hayley Matthews captains Barbados Royals against Deandra Dottin’s Trinbago Knight Riders in the first match of ‘Cricket’s Power Game’. The 6ixty is a brand new ten-over a-side tournament with plenty of caveats in terms of the rules. For starters each team has only six wickets as opposed to the usual ten, whilst each powerplay consists of two overs but increases to three should the batting side hit two sixes within those first two overs. The first five overs (or 30 balls) of an innings will be bowled and one end of the ground, before switching ends for the final five overs. The bowlers and fielders will need to get their skates on as failure to bowl their ten overs within 45 minutes will see a fielder removed from the game for the final over, which would have game-changing repercussions!

Both teams contain significant quality within their respective squads, Barbados Royals can call upon all-rounder Chloe Tryon and bowler Shakera Selman, whilst Trinbago Knight Riders boasts both Kycia and Kyshona Knight alongside overseas star Sune Luus, who recently captained South Africa at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Whilst this match could go either way, the form of the big-hitting Dottin can’t be ignored as she comes into the tournament on the back of having accrued scores of 67 not out (from 37 balls) and most recently 68 not out (from just 30 deliveries) for Manchester Originals in the Women’s Hundred competition. Dottin should prove the catalyst for Trinbago Knight Riders to claim victory here in the inaugural match of the women’s 6ixty.
