THE PREDICTION
As usual in recent years, Sussex Sharks will enter the Blast as one of the favourites to win, although much has changed compared to last year. Chris Jordan and Reece Topley have both left for Surrey, whilst Ravi Bopara has replaced Luke Wright as captain, the latter stepping down from the role. Add that to Jofra Archer’s latest injury and you’d think they are heavily weakened. However, this is Sussex Sharks and they maintain a high level of quality among their team, most notably through overseas players Mohammad Rizwan and Josh Philippe. Wicketkeeper-batter Rizwan, who was named the 2021 ICC Player of the Year is one of the best T20 hitters in the world and should help ensure the Sharks take full advantage of the powerplay. Whilst Glamorgan contain a sprinkling of stardust through the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Colin Ingram, not to mention local players such as David Lloyd and Dan Douthwaite, they do not boast the strength-in-depth of Sussex and the hosts are to be favoured for victory.
