THE FIXTURES

Below is a list of the day’s South Group fixtures:

Glamorgan vs Middlesex - 14:30 BST

Hampshire Hawks vs Gloucestershire – 14:30 BST

Surrey vs Essex Eagles - 14:30 BST

Somerset vs Kent Spitfires - 18:30 BST

GLAMORGAN vs MIDDLESEX

THE PREDICTION

Middlesex completed another incredible run chase away from home at a rival on Friday, this time beating Essex by two wickets, reaching a target of 226 with two balls to spare. It’s even more bonkers when you consider that this, combined with their famous triumph away at Surrey were Middlesex’s only two wins in the T20 Blast this season. However, they stand a great chance of making it three against Glamorgan, who have lost their last four T20 Blast fixtures. Confidence is low within the Glamorgan camp, as their batters are not performing well and their bowlers continue to be flayed to all parts as they have been across the majority of the group stage. Therefore, back Middlesex to make it three T20 Blast victories on the road this season, ending their campaign on a high.

TIP: MIDDLESEX TO WIN

HAMPSHIRE HAWKS vs GLOUCESTERSHIRE

THE PREDICTION

Hampshire Hawks had their ground-staff and DLS to thank for a rain-affected win over Glamorgan in a shortened game which has all but sealed their place in the quarter-finals. However, James Vince’s side will now have their eye on a home tie and to gain this they’ll need to beat Gloucestershire and hope that Surrey loses against Essex. The first of these two scenarios should certainly occur. The Hawks are a significantly stronger all-round outfit than Gloucestershire, not to mention they also have the benefit of playing in home conditions. Expect a comfortable win for the reigning champions that sets things up nicely for the knockout stage.

TIP: HAMPSHIRE HAWKS TO WIN

SURREY vs ESSEX EAGLES

THE PREDICTION

Surrey’s home form has to be considered a serious concern after Somerset became the latest team to beat them at the Kia Oval this past Friday night. But Essex Eagles are in an even bigger hole, losing their last four T20 Blast matches, which has seen them throw knockout qualification away. They can still make the top four with a win here and a Somerset victory over Kent Spitfires, but with a bowling attack leaking runs for fun and a team lacking any sort of composure and belief in pressure situations, it’s very hard to see them having much joy against an experienced Surrey side full of players well adept in holding their nerve on the big occasion. Backing a home win has to be favoured in this contest.

TIP: SURREY TO WIN

SOMERSET vs KENT SPITFIRES

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Kent Spitfires may have seen their six-match winning streak come to an end last time out at the hands of Sussex Sharks, DLS played a big part in the defeat. Knockout qualification is still in their hands and they could well take to the field at Taunton with their quarter-final place already secure. Somerset are already guaranteed top spot in the South Group and a home draw and it would be no surprise if they gave a couple of players a rest, particularly on the bowling front. This may play into Kent Spitfires’ hands and their recent run has shown that the visitors can compete with any team on any ground at the moment. With that in mind, it looks a shrewd play to back an away win here.

TIP: KENT SPITFIRES TO WIN
