THE LOWDOWN
Worcestershire Rapids will be pleased that they will welcome Moeen Ali back. The off-spinning all-rounder had an excellent tournament with the bat in the curtailed IPL in May and will likely bat in the top three as he has done previously for the Rapids. A terrible 2020 for a side that had been perennially improving at white-ball cricket saw Worcester finish bottom of the central group with just two victories in their ten matches. Notts Outlaws, on the other hand, finally reached their T20 peak after years of solid one-day cricket. The 2020 T20 Blast champions come into 2021 with a side that boasts the likes of Alex Hales and Ben Duckett.
THE PREDICTION
New Road saw some high scores with five scores in five matches over 180 and four over 190 in the 2020 campaign. The first-class matches at Worcestershire this season have also seen some prolific run-scoring so that is once again likely. Given that, big runs are likely and the aforementioned power of Notts Outlaws’ batting lineup would make the champions of last season’s competition the favourites to out-score their opposition on day one of this season’s tournament.
