THE LOWDOWN
Somerset produced a brilliant comeback to stun Hampshire Hawks and book their spot in the Vitality t20 Blast final. Chasing 151 to win, Somerset were struggling in their chase and needed 46 from the final three overs but some big hitting from Ben Green (35 from 18) turned the game on its head before Josh Davey whacked 11 from just three deliveries to seal their side’s place in this evening’s showpiece.
Kent Spitfires on the other hand were much more comfortable victors in their semi-final clash with Sussex Sharks. They posted 168/8, largely thanks to an excellent knock of 82 from 51 as the opener continued his fine form in this competition. He was ably supported by Darren Stevens down the order with the veteran notching an unbeaten 47 to help post a solid total and they never looked like they would allow the Sharks to chase it down. Matt Milnes took three wickets but he was outshone by a fine display from Fred Klassen who finished with figures of 4-17 in the 21-run success.
THE PREDICTION
Somerset and Kent Spitfires do battle for the Vitality t20 Blast
title after overcoming their respective opponents in the semi-finals at
Edgbaston. Somerset needed a late rally to fight back and overcome
Hampshire and while that success will bring them into this full of
confidence, this is a tough test for them against the Spitfires. A
strong all-round showing saw Kent progress against Sussex Sharks and a
similar performance in the final would likely be good enough to claim
the win. Somerset have won the pair's two meeting so far this season so they also have that in their favour but that will only add to Kent's desire to right the wrongs of those efforts. Both teams have won this competition on one occasion to date but having looked so impressive earlier in the day, the Spitfires
look like the side set to earn a second Blast title by beating Somerset for the first time at the third time of asking this year.
