THE LOWDOWN
Lancashire Lightning have been extremely consistent and impressive in the group stages of the T20 Blast in recent years, especially under the captaincy of Dane Vilas. They reached the semi-finals of the 2018 tournament, won their group in 2019 but lost the quarter-final and then reached the semi-finals again in 2020. The first six matches of their season will see Jos Buttler bat alongside New Zealand international Finn Allen. They come up against a Derbyshire Falcons side that are led by T20 specialist coach Dominic Cork in a side that have attempted to almost prioritise the Blast in recent years due to financial reasons but it hasn’t necessarily helped with their 2020 campaign of just one win in ten matches in the north group being an example of poor performance. They will be missing their T20 overseas specialist Logan van Beek in this match due to his involvement in the ODI Super League series against Ireland.
THE PREDICTION
Despite that intended focus on T20 cricket on behalf of the visitors, they will come into this as the severe underdogs. Lancashire will fancy their chances of chasing anything with their batting lineup of Buttler, Livingstone, Davies, Allen, Vilas and maybe Jennings as well as the ability to dry up runs on a big playing outfield at Old Trafford with the spin of Livingstone, Parkinson and maybe Croft. A home win is the likely outcome in this one.
