THE LOWDOWN
A thumping defeat at the hands of Surrey at the Oval last September ended an improved T20 season for the Spitfires last season. Kent have been perennially average with the occasional quarter-final since the late 2000s in T20 cricket. They will have the likes of Joe Denly and Sam Billings available. They come up against the newly-named Hampshire Hawks that will be able to field captain James Vince in a strong batting line-up but the spin of Liam Dawson and Mason Crane is likely to be the key bowling partnership of the Hawks.
THE PREDICTION
Canterbury saw a mixed bag of scores last season with relatively high-scoring matches. A key theme of the early part of this season has been fast-scoring down in Kent with the odd big score; an example of that came in 2020 when Jordan Cox and Jack Leaning put on a 423-run partnership together in 93.5 overs against Sussex in the Bob Willis Trophy. If that flat pitch theme is to continue then the home team will fancy their chances of out-scoring their opponents despite being without Zak Crawley. So, a high-scoring home win seems a strong chance in this one.
