THE PREDICTION
Somerset come into this on the back of a ten-wicket victory against Hampshire in which they continued their low-scoring theme; a very ‘Somerset-y’ win. Their 336 all out in that match is the highest score of their season so far and, as ever, that came largely down to middle-to-lower order runs in which their numbers seven, eight and ten scored 30+ and their number nine, Craig Overton, notched 74. That batting performance from Overton has supplemented an incredibly impressive start to the campaign with the ball in which he is the leading wicket-taker in county cricket with 29 wickets so far this season.
They come up against a Surrey side that have been really poor throughout the campaign with the exception of a complete performance against Hampshire a fortnight ago. However, they followed up that dismantling of an in-form side by conceding just short of 500 runs against a still winless Leicestershire before collapsing from 164-0 to 324 all out. A century for Mark Stoneman and a fourth half-century for Rory Burns at the top-of-the-order will give the Londoners some confidence as their middle-order of Hashim Amla, Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes have contributed big innings this season.
One side come into this in good form and the other side are not. The side in good form are Somerset and they are also at home. A logical conclusion would be to suggest that they come into this as the favourites.
