THE PREDICTION

With five wins from their five Group B games, last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy runners-up Tamil Nadu have been in formidable form as they look to go one better this time round. The winners of Group B face Himachal Pradesh, who snuck through to the quarter-finals as runners-up of Group C. With the second-best net run-rate of all the teams left in the competition, Tamil Nadu look to have all basis covered within their side, with the experience of wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik leading the team. Opener Narayan Jagadeesan has been in excellent form all competition and the Himachal Pradesh bowling attack may struggle to contain Jagadeesan in full flow. When combined with the wicket taking off break bowling of all-rounder Baba Aparajith, that has also helped strangle the opposition’s batting, it would be a real surprise if Tamil Nadu weren’t to continue their winning momentum and advance to the semi-finals.
