THE PREDICTION
In what is arguably the tie of the opening round of matches at the Wankhede Stadium sees Mumbai face Delhi in what should be a high-quality matchup. Mumbai will have wondered how they did not reach the semi-finals last year after missing out on net run rate and that was due to their heavy loss to Tamil Nadu. They responded in the Super League phase by winning their next three including a win over eventual winners Karnataka but that proved to be not enough much to their frustration. They will be fired up to go all the way this year and they have an impressive squad to choose from although they will be without key internationals Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur and Rohit Sharma. They do have still have plenty of quality with Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni and Shivam Dube in their line-up so they will be confident of getting off to a winning start here. That will not be straight forward against this Delhi side who have good quality in their ranks. The visitors are just as decimated if not more so due to the international call-ups as Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini and Ishant Sharma are all unavailable. That leaves Nitish Rana Pawan Negi and Dhruv Shorey to lead the team and they look short without their key men. Mumbai have to be favoured to get an opening win and make a statement with a comprehensive victory.
