Defending champions Karnataka made a winning start to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and did so in impressive fashion as they swept aside the challenge of Jammu & Kashmir. Krishnan Shrijith top-scored with 48* to help his side to 150/5 and that proved to be more than enough as a brilliant effort from the bowling unit helped to skittle their opponents for just 107 to earn a 43-run success. They will now come up against another side that won their opening match of the tournament in Punjab, who saw off Uttar Pradesh thanks to a strong effort with the ball. Punjab set their opponents 135 to win but they defended it in impressive fashion as they restricted them to 123/5. Despite that success, they will face a tougher batting line-up here and must significantly improve themselves with the bat but Karnataka are still likely to prevail here.
