THE PREDICTION
Defending champions Karnataka come into this new edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as one of the favourites to retain their title and they will strongly fancy their chances in this opening game. They are without their internationals as KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are unavailable but they still possess plenty of firepower with the bat as they are led by Manish Pandey and he is ably supported by Karun Nair and last year’s leading runscorer Devdutt Padikkal. With a strong bowling attack led by IPL spin dup Shreyas Gopal and Krishnappa Gowtham, they can back up the batting or win a match themselves, and they should ultimately have far too much quality for Jammu & Kashmir in this opening game.
