Tamil Nadu will still be haunted by their defeat in last year’s final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which they lost by a solitary run, but they will be even more determined to go all the way this time around. They have the quality and talent to go one better and despite Ravi Ashwin and Thangarasu Natarajan being on international Test duty, they still possess plenty of quality throughout their roster. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore was the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 20 wickets, while they boast international and IPL stars like Washington Sundar, Murali Vijay, Vijay Shankar, and Dinesh Karthik. They open this edition with a match against Jharkhand who reached the knockout stage last season but were ultimately exposed when the level of quality stepped up a gear. They have some talented players such as Varun Aaron, Saurabh Tiwary and Ishan Kishan, but the supporting cast has nowhere near the depth of their opponents and expect Tamil Nadu to win this opener in emphatic style.
