THE PREDICTION

Neither Bengal or Odisha were able to qualify from the initial group stage of the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and unless either of them can really hit top form, that likely will be the reality for them this time around too. Bengal have the most potential to push for a knockout spot but they will be without star wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha who is with the Test squad although he did miss the entire campaign last year. They are also without Mohammed Shami due to injury but they will still be solid and they should have just enough to edge past Odisha in a close-fought game.
