THE PREDICTION
Assam won a thrilling contest with Hyderabad as they edged their opponents by just two runs in their opening Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy contest. Assam looked to be struggling with the top four in their order failing to fire but Riyan Parag (51*), Saahil Jain (31) and Rajjakuddin Ahmed (31*) helped secure a solid total of 159/5. They then produced a good job with the ball to limit the scoring of their opponents and see the game out by the extremely narrow margin but that result should stand them in good stead. They will need to improve as they take on a Tamil Nadu side that were mightily impressive in their opening victory against Jharkhand. They won by 66 runs which was largely thanks to Chezhian Harinishanth’s outstanding 92* before the bowlers backed him up to restrict Jharkhand to just 123/7. That was a statement victory to kick things off for them and while Assam can pose a threat, Tamil Nadu will take some beating if they can match their level of performance from their first game.
