OTAGO VOLTS

• Otago Volts have enjoyed a strong start to their Plunket Shield campaign and now turn their attention to 20 over cricket, in which a significant improvement is required from their last campaign.

CENTRAL STAGS

• Despite finishing second-place in the league table across the last Super Smash, Central Stags failed to reach the grand final in heart-breaking fashion after seeing a score of 180/7 chased down by Canterbury Kings with just one balls remaining at Eden Park.
• Both top order batter Will Young and spin-bowler Ajaz Patel will definitely be unavailable due to their Test match commitments with New Zealand, although fast bowler Adam Milne could feature unless he is ordered to rest following a long schedule that has seen him play the T20 Blast, the T20 World Cup and a T20i series against India.

THE PREDICTION

The only way is up for Otago Volts after finishing sixth-place in the 2020-21 Super Smash with just two wins from ten to their name, whilst Central Stags will be desperate to go one better and advance all the way to the final this time round. Whilst it will be important to see the confirmed starting line-ups here due to the number of New Zealand T20i players whose involvement at this time is unknown, the Stags are expected to prove strong at this form of the game once again and represent a very difficult first assignment for Otago.
