THE LOWDOWN
WELLINGTON FIREBIRDS
- Wellington Firebirds can clinch top spot with a win here and that would be well deserved as they have been the best team in the tournament so far having won seven of their eight games so far.
- They suffered a blow in their last win against Canterbury Kings as Rachin Ravindra suffered a dislocated shoulder in the fielder to his absence along with that of Jimmy Neesham leaves them without two important all-rounders and reduces their options.
- Fraser Colson comes into the 12-man squad for this game but he may well be the odd man out as they look to continue this fine run of form despite being without the absent duo to face the Stags.
CENTRAL STAGS
- The Central Stags come into this clash with the Firebirds needing one win from their final two games to ensure a knockout place and they will be hoping to bounce back from defeat against Auckland Aces last time out.
- They have made one change to their squad for this game as all-rounder Kieran Noema-Barnett misses out due to his struggles with the bat in this addition of the Super Smash and he is replaced by spinner Jayden Lennox.
- The Stags have arguably been the best batting team in the tournament so far with easily their lowest total of 136 coming in the previous game against the Firebirds so they will be looking to do much better here.
THE PREDICTION
With both the Firebirds and Stags expected to be competing at the business end of this edition of the Super Smash, the two teams will be keen to get a psychological edge over one another in this game. The Firebirds have been the better of the two teams so far in the tournament and they have one comfortable win already over the Stags although Tom Bruce’s men will be motivated to avenge that loss. A high-scoring game is likely and with the Firebirds without two important players, the Stags formidable batting line-up could have too much for the Firebirds in this one.
