OTAGO VOLTS
- Otago Volts got their 2020/21 Super Smash campaign off to a flying start as they beat the Auckland Aces by 45 runs and the foundations for their victory was laid by their batsmen who smashed an impressive 219/7 from their 20 overs.
- It was talented youngster Llew Johnson who led the way with 72 from 44 balls while Mitch Renwick smashed 42 from 22 and there were several other strong contributions to help them amass an insurmountable 219 and show they can produce without Dean Foxcroft.
- There is every chance that they will name the same team for this second of back-to-back matches as they look to build on their impressive win against the Kings who have yet to play a game.
CANTERBURY KINGS
- Canterbury Kings fell narrowly short of making the play-offs last season in a competitive 2019/20 edition of the Super Smash and they will hope to compete in the latter stages this season especially after good performances in the Plunket Shield and Ford Trophy.
- They will be led by skipper Cole McConchie once again this year and they can also count on key men Todd Astle, Cam Fletcher, Matt Henry and Chad Bowes for this opening game as they look to get off to a winning start.
- They are however without their trio of internationals as Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell are all with the Blackcaps team playing against Pakistan so they are somewhat weaker without them.
THE PREDICTION
Otago Volts were in sensational form in their opening game as they smashed Auckland Aces all around the ground by hitting 219. They now face Canterbury Kings who will pose them plenty of problems themselves and the Kings bring good form into this Super Smash from other tournaments. They will look to continue their good domestic form here and they will need the likes of Bowes, McConchie, Astle and Fletcher to hit the ground running. The Volts warmed up nicely for this game on Tuesday and with so many of their batsmen looking in good form, they have to be favoured to pick up another win here.
