THE LOWDOWN
NORTHERN KNIGHTS
- Northern Knights came within two wickets of getting their first win last time out against Otago Volts but they fell agonisingly short once again and have now lost all three of the matches they have played.
- Tim Seifert managed to hit some form with 74 runs from 58 balls but only two other players managed to reach double figures in that last game where they managed 153/7 and once again it was a case of not enough of their players making significant contributions.
- Veteran batsman Dean Brownlie is under big pressure to improve having managed scores of 7, 8 and 2 so far while Henry Cooper has also failed to reach double figures in any of his three innings so far so they both of those are candidates to be rotated out if they cannot improve quickly.
CENTRAL STAGS
- After losing their opening game to the defending champions Wellington Firebirds, the Central Stags have responded in style having won their last two matches and racking up 223/6 and 226/8 in those two games.
- Despite those huge totals, skipper Tom Bruce has only managed 24 runs in his three innings so far and he now sits out due to paternity leave and it will be George Worker who steps up to lead the team in his absence.
- That will lead to their first change to the team having named an unchanged side in each match so far as Ben Smith comes in to replace Bruce but they will be hoping for more of the same especially with so many of their players in good form right now especially with the bat.
THE PREDICTION
The Central Stags return to action against the winless Northern Knights and they will be confident of picking up another win despite missing captain Tom Bruce. The Knights have struggled to get going so far in this edition of the Super Smash despite possessing a handful of international stars. The lack of depth in their team remains a major issue with only two or three players arguably anywhere close to their best. Unless more of their team can lift themselves and start producing, it is hard to see them winning. The Stags on the other hand have several players contributing with the bat especially and have already registered four fifties in their opening three games. They have to be preferred based on form to pick up another win and inflict a fourth consecutive defeat on the struggling Knights.
