THE LOWDOWN
CANTERBURY KINGS
- The Canterbury Kings are the only other team not named Wellington to have a 100% winning record in this year’s Super Smash but they have only played two matches so far as they come into these back-to-back matches here.
- They have looked strong with both bat and ball in their first two matches so far and they are bolstered even further for this game as fast bowler Matt Henry returns from Test duty while they can also count on star all-rounder Daryl Mitchell for the first time this campaign.
- Mitchell will add even more firepower with the bat and greater depth with the ball, and with Henry back in, they have a formidable look about them coming into this clash with the Central Stags.
CENTRAL STAGS
- Central Stags come into the second of their back-to-back matches as they picked up a handsome 53-run win over Otago Volts on Saturday after they posted a superb total of 223/5 – the third time in five games they have scored 223 runs or more in this campaign.
- Stand-in captain George Worker was the star of the show becoming just the fourth Stag to score a century in T20 cricket as he hit 106 from 58 balls and he will continue to deputise for the absent Tom Bruce who continues to miss out due to paternity leave.
- The big news coming into this game is that they welcome New Zealand legend Ross Taylor who will play his first Super Smash game in four years and he bolsters what is already a formidable batting line-up.
THE PREDICTION
This promises to be a hugely entertaining game between two of the strongest batting line-ups in the competition. The Kings have won both of their games so far and will only get stronger with Henry and Mitchell coming back into the side. They face a Stags side that have played five games already and now have Ross Taylor coming into what has been the standout batting line-up in the tournament so far. They loom extremely well balanced with a good bowling unit to back up their formidable batting and with the Kings potentially a little under-cooked due to only playing two games so far, the Stags can pick up another win here.
