THE LOWDOWN
AUCKLAND ACES
- Auckland Aces have nothing but pride to play for in their remaining two games having lost seven of their eight matches in the Super Smash but they have competed well in their last two matches and will hope to get their second win here.
- Even though they lost their last match, the Aces will take heart from the fact they pushed an incredibly strong Northern Knights side to the very last ball and that will give them confidence coming into this one.
- Mark Chapman has been in stunning form in the last couple of matches hitting 73 and 69 but they could desperately do with greater contributions from Martin Guptill or Glenn Phillips who have struggled since coming into the team.
OTAGO VOLTS
- Otago Volts have been just as poor as the Aces having lost their last five Super Smash games in a row as their campaign is petering out although they will take heart from having beaten the Aces at the start of the tournament.
- The Volts have batted first in their last four matches and on each occasion have failed to produce a total big enough to defend and really test their opponents so it is clear they have to improve with the bat.
- There are no changes to their squad for this game but while they have a core group of experienced players like Rutherford, McClenaghan and Broom, they otherwise look short on savvy and quality.
THE PREDICTION
The two worst teams in the tournament face off in this dead rubber but it is the Auckland Aces who have shown more quality and fight in their last couple of games. It has been a clear case of the Aces under-performing as they have good quality in their ranks while the Volts do look to be short on talent in comparison to their Super Smash rivals. With Mark Chapman in good form for the Aces and their bowling attack looking stronger, the Auckland outfit are strongly favoured to win this one.
