THE TEAM NEWS

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars progressed to the second eliminator by beating Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday by five wickets as their experienced batting line-up remained calm after falling to 33/3 with Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Samit Patel and David Wiese guiding them to victory.
  • They did look to have restricted Peshawar to a below-par total but Hardus Viljoen smashed 37 from 16 balls to take their opponents from 133-8 after 17.3 overs to 170/9 so they will look to improve on their death bowling here.
  • It is highly unlikely they will make any changes to their line-up for this game and while there were plenty of areas for improvement, they will be confident of doing better here after one match under their belts.

MULTAN SULTANS

  • Multan Sultans were comfortably the best team in the group stage but they narrowly lost their qualifier on Saturday against Karachi Kings so they have to come through this eliminator now if they are to reach the final.
  • Their batting was ultimately to blame for their loss albeit in the Super Over as they only managed to post 141/7 from their 20 overs batting first and their top order will have to improve after they slipped to 40/4.
  • Sohail Tanvir was key with both bat and ball for them on Saturday so they will look to him for inspiration once again but while they too may go unchanged, they will desperately for major improvements through the batting especially.

THE PREDICTION

Based on their respective performances on Saturday, it is Lahore Qalandars who have more reason to be optimistic coming into this game more so than the Multan Sultans. Despite winning the group stage handily, the Sultans struggled on Saturday against Karachi Kings and they will have to improve notably with the bat especially. The Qalandars will be confident after their good performance against Peshawar and they have the edge in form and in quality when comparing the two teams. Their bowling looks dangerous with Shaheen Shah Afridi leading the way, while their batting is incredibly deep. The Qalandars are preferred marginally with the momentum and edge in form following Saturday’s matches.
