THE TEAM NEWS
PESHAWAR ZALMI
- Peshawar Zalmi fell to defeat this past Sunday against Multan Sultans as they failed to back up their commanding victory the day before over Quetta Gladiators.
- Most worrying from a Zalmi point of view was their bowling attack that took only two wickets as Multan reached a target of 167 with three and a half overs to spare with captain Wahab Riaz going wicketless for the cost of 11 runs an over.
- The batting still represents a strong point for Zalmi and the experienced Shoaib Malik will no doubt be determined to bounce back following his golden duck.
KARACHI KINGS
- Despite racking up a more than respectable score of 190/4 in their match against Islamabad United yesterday, Karachi Kings saw that target chased down relatively comfortably for the loss of just two wickets.
- Pakistan international Babar Azam shone once again with the bat, backing up his 85 not out against Multan Sultans with 81 here and he was supported by Najibullah’s 71 not out, but unfortunately the Kings bowlers succumbed to the monster striking of Colin Monroe and Iftikhar Ahmed on the opposition side.
- Captain Imad Wasim will need to sit down with the Karachi Kings coaches and work out how to approach this match, with changes to the starting line-up potentially on the cards as the likes of Zeeshan Malik and 16-year-old overseas bowler Noor Ahmad make a case for selection.
THE PREDICTION
A close contest looks in prospect here with both these sides having struggled with the same issues in their most recent defeats. Neither team have taken enough wickets, therefore failing to put pressure on their respective opponents and a similar scenario in this match will likely see a high scoring affair. Only one place currently separates the two teams in the Pakistan Super League table and little is likely to separate them on the field. However, when taking into account the inevitable low confidence of a Karachi Kings outfit who have not won since the resumption of the competition not to mention their overreliance on Babar’s batting, then it leads us to narrowly favour Peshawar Zalmi in this one.
