MULTAN SULTANS
- Multan Sultans come into this match off the back of having won their last two Pakistan Super League games and have a great opportunity here to make it three in a row as they face bottom of the table Quetta Gladiators.
- Captain Mohammad Rizwan shone in their eight-wicket victory against Peshawar Zalmi this past Sunday, after the wicketkeeper batter hit an unbeaten 82 and he was well supported by Sohaib Maqsood at number three, who scored a rapid 61 from just 31 deliveries.
- The Sultans will have to decide whether to stick with Zimbabwean bowler Blessing Muzarabani for this match, or recall 37-year-old Sohail Khan after leaving him out against Peshawar.
QUETTA GLADIATORS
- Quetta Gladiators surprised everyone last time out by recording their first win since the resumption of this year’s Pakistan Super League, beating a high-flying Lahore Qalandars side in what was only their second triumph in this year’s tournament.
- After posting a par score of 158/5, Quetta’s bowlers did the damage by putting in a superb performance to bowl out their opponents for 140 with three wickets each for Usman Shinwari and Khurram Shahzad
- Having still not been cleared by doctors, West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell did not play against Lahore and the likelihood is that he will sit out once again here, with Quetta also without South African batter Faf du Plessis, who has been ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a concussion vs Lahore in a collision with teammate Mohammad Hasnain whilst trying to prevent a boundary.
THE PREDICTION
Quetta Gladiators’ unexpected victory over Lahore Qalandars will have given them a huge confidence boost heading into this match and Multan Sultans would be wise not to show any complacency here. The key to the result of this contest will be whether Quetta can dismiss the Multan Sultans’ top order early on, particularly captain Rizwan. However, the Sultans bat deep with overseas stars Rilee Roussow and Shimron Hetmyer forming a dangerous middle order combination and this sort firepower should ultimately lead Multan Sultans to a third successive Pakistan Super League victory in this one.
