ISLAMABAD UNITED
- Islamabad United were outperformed with both bat and ball as they fell to a convincing loss to Multan Sultans in their qualifier but they now get a second chance to progress to the Pakistan Super League final.
- Despite a solid start with the ball which saw them remove the dangerous Mohammad Rizwan for a duck before seeing off Shan Masood and Rilee Rossouw in the eighth over but they failed to capitalise as the Sultans made 180/5.
- Usman Khawaja was the mainstay of the response with a superb 70 off just 40 balls but he was provided with very little support as United failed to recover from falling to 14/3 and they were consequently bowled out for 149 in a disappointing batting effort.
PESHAWAR ZALMI
- Peshawar Zalmi progressed to the second eliminator in dramatic circumstances as they edged Karachi Kings in a tense affair with Zalmi winning the contest with just one ball of the match remaining.
- The bowling unit restricted the Kings to 175/7, a total that was not straightforward to chase but they would have been confident of surpassing it and Hazratullah Zazai’s 77 looked to have put them well on their way.
- However, the Kings fought back to slow the scoring rate and it needed a knock of 17* from ten balls from Sherfane Rutherford to guide Zalmi into a semi-final clash with Islamabad United.
THE PREDICTION
Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi do battle for the right to face
Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League final but the pair come into
this with contrasting performances last time out. United fell to the
Sultans in their qualifying contest while Zalmi edged a thriller with
Karachi Kings to stay alive in the competition. The pair have shared one
win apiece in matches against one another in this year’s PSL so there
is little to separate the teams but Islamabad were in good form before
their recent loss to the Sultans having won their previous five matches
so they should be able to respond and book their spot in the final.
