THE TEAM NEWS
ISLAMABAD UNITED
- Islamabad United finished bottom of the PSL ladder last year for the first time in their history and that has led to a shake-up of their roster that they will be hoping can yield much improved results in PSL 6.
- Four of their five top runscorers – Luke Ronchi, Colin Munro, Colin Ingram and Dawid Malan – are not part of the squad this time around but they will have high expectations on marquee signing Alex Hales along with Lewis Gregory, Phil Salt and Paul Stirling.
- They do possess a really strong core local contingent led by Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali and Hasan Ali and they will need to be much better than last year if they are to challenge this year.
MULTAN SULTANS
- The Multan Sultans fell short last year as they lost in the second Eliminator but ultimately not enough of their players managed to contribute so they will be looking for an all-round improvement in PSL 6.
- They have been boosted by the signing of national team wicketkeeper/batsman Mohammad Rizwan who is in outstanding form of late and he will lead the side so there will be big expectations on him to produce.
- They also boosted by the signing of Chris Lynn who will add serious firepower to the batting line-up and if James Vince is available for the whole tournament, then they have a formidable look about them in terms of batting.
THE PREDICTION
Both of these teams will be hoping to fare much better in PSL 6 but it is the Sultans who are coming into the tournament looking the stronger of the two teams. They came third last year but look to be even stronger this time around with Chris Lynn and Mohammad Rizwan joining their ranks to bolster them. Islamabad have made more changes to their ranks and they will be hoping the likes of Alex Hales can hit the ground running. Unusually for them, the campaign was pretty flat last year so they will have to change the momentum in the camp. That will be tough in this opening game with the Sultans favoured to get the win.
