THE TEAM NEWS

ISLAMABAD UNITED

  • Since the resumption of the Pakistan Super League, Islamabad United have been a cut above the opposition and come into this match off the back of having won their last five games.
  • A total of 16 points with a record of eight wins and just two defeats have seen Islamabad finish as group winners with a huge gap of six points separating them from the rest of the teams who have qualified for the next stage of the competition.
  • After beating Multan Sultans by four wickets in their last game despite a number of their key players rested, the whole Islamabad side will be full of confidence especially with the likes of overseas openers Usman Khawaja and Colin Munroe both returning to the side for this game.

MULTAN SULTANS

  • Multan Sultans ended their Pakistan Super League group stage campaign with a second placed finish after winning four of their five fixtures since the competition restarted, an impressive turnaround having made a poor start in the tournament.
  • They face the same side who beat them in their most recent game by four wickets, with the collapse suffered by their batting line-up no doubt a concern, after being dismissed for 149 with their last eight wickets falling for just 42 runs
  • The likes of captain Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood will be under pressure to deliver runs at the top of the order, whilst left arm bowling all-rounder Sohail Tanvir is expected to return to the side for this qualifier.

THE PREDICTION

After facing off on the final day of group stage matches, Islamabad United and Multan Sultans do battle once again in the Pakistan Super League qualifier, with the winner securing their place in Thursday’s final. Another close contest is expected between the two teams as was the case this past Saturday. However, the formidable batting line-up of Islamabad United is looking impenetrable at the moment and when taking that into account, alongside their current form then it’s difficult not to see them emerging victorious in this one and booking what would be a deserved spot in the Pakistan Super League final.
