THE PREDICTION

Northamptonshire head into their first match of the season with a huge cloud hanging over them following former captain Adam Rosssington’s departure to Essex. The wicket-keeper-batter captained Northants to promotion back in 2019, but was stripped of the captaincy by new head coach John Sadler, with opener Ricardo Vasconcelos set to lead them into battle here. Gloucestershire on the other-hand have enjoyed a laid-back preparation to Division One life and have prepared well by making a series of excellent signings. Australian Marcus Harris shone for Leicestershire last time out in county cricket and should score plenty of runs from the Bristol based side, whilst Pakistan duo Zafar Gohar and 19-year-old Naseem Shah provide both spin and searing pace, the latter arguably the most exciting signing made by any county so far in 2022. Despite the absence of Harris for this first game, Gloucestershire maintain a strong top order that should outscore the hosts and lead to the visitors triumphing at The County Ground against arguably the favourites to be relegated this season, so back Gloucestershire via the draw no bet market.
