THE LOWDOWN

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last time out, losing to bitter rivals India in a titanic tussle that went right to the final ball, with over 90,000 fans at the MCG being treated to what was one of the best games of T20i cricket one will ever see.
  • The big question is whether Pakistan will consider making changes following the loss when considering how their bowlers were taken apart late in the contest, but the likelihood is that they will stick with their current starting team and give them the opportunity to bounce straight back.

ZIMBABWE

  • In a heavily rain-affected encounter with South Africa, Zimbabwe escaped with a point after a terminal heavy shower saved them from almost certain defeat as South Africa needed just 13 more runs to win before the players were taken off for the final time.
  • The rain had already caused an injury to quick bowler Richard Ngarava, who appeared to hurt a thigh in his follow through and he could be forced to miss this match as a result.

THE PREDICTION

Key to this game will be how Pakistan respond following such a demoralising loss against India. The mental aspect of that defeat can’t be underestimated, but this Pakistan squad under Babar Azam is a tight-knit unit and the likelihood is that they will react positively rather than crumble. Zimbabwe are a team not to be underestimated, but Pakistan contain superior players in terms of ability in all departments and should triumph comprehensively here.
