  • New Zealand made everyone sit up and take notice following their incredible 89-run triumph against host nation and near neighbours Australia this past Saturday in Sydney, racking up 200/3 with the bat before bowling the Aussies out for just 111.
  • All five bowlers utilised by the Black Caps picked up at least one wicket, whilst opener Devon Conway’s wonderful 92 not out from just 58 balls underpinned an excellent batting innings in what was a special all-round team performance.

  • It was expected going into the tournament that Afghanistan’s batting could be what lets them down against the top teams and that proved the case against England with their bowling attack unable to defend such a small total.
  • Afghanistan were bowled out for just 112 after losing the toss and batting first and if they are to have any chance of success here, they simply must be better in this department.

Although the bowling attack of Afghanistan gives them a chance here, they don’t contain the all-round class in all departments that New Zealand have. The Black Caps have all bases covered and just as importantly, look to be in scintillating form which can go a long way in such a short tournament. It’s unlikely that Afghanistan will be able to match New Zealand with the bat and therefore the Kiwis have to be favoured to pick up a second victory in the ‘Super 12’s’.
